Maybe give this a try.... a third party search tool called "Everything" from here http://www.voidtools.com/downloads/
I have used it for years and find it faster and more efficient than the native Windows Search (indexed or not).
Just do a search for *.jpg
or whatever file extension you likely used when saving them.
.png
.gif
.tiff
.bmp

I'm not familiar with the product but as I recall it was part of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials
Maybe you need to re-install it??

Windows Photo Gallery is part of the Windows Essentials ( aka Windows Live Essentials ).
Go to your Programs and Features > right click at Windows Essentials > click Uninstall/Change > select the Repair option.

See if the repair will fix the problem.

I'm not sure how I did it, but I found the pictures using the everything link. They are not necessarily labelled as they were before, but at least I can find them! Thank you so much!

After upgrade to W10 from 7 lost all pictures. I had all my pictures in /users/owner/pictures. A search for *.jpg turns up nothing. All that was left in /pictures after upgrade to W10 from w7 is ControlCenter3 directory. Glad I had them backed up. I do not have a Windows.old folder.
