My internet connection for my desktop and laptop is on a metered data cap 4G lte plan with Sprint - the connection is thru a Netgear air card interfaced via usb to a Cradlepoint router - the laptop connects wireless to the router and the desktop by ethernet cable. I'm thinking that setting the metered connection to on in Windows 10 won't work in my case and is restricted to mobile devices with direct WI-FI connections to their ISP. Is this a correct assumption ?

I was under the impression that you could apply the advanced option "metered connection" to any WiFi connected device and it would behave properly, however.....
The option to do the same on a wired Ethernet connection is not available which is a shame. It would be very helpful in a number of various scenarios such as yours.
