After windows installed the last major update I can no longer return to the desktop from screen saver using the mouse. How do I rectify this problem?

You could check via Device Manager whether your mouse is enabled to wake computer.
  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager
  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices
  • Right-click on your Mouse and select Properties
  • Select the Power Management tab
  • Make sure Allow this device to wake the computer is checked

Thanks for the reply. I tried it and it didn't work.

I'm having this same problem too, just since the update a couple of days ago. I tried those settings for both mouse and keyboard, but they're both already set to enabled.
I have found that ALT+Tab will wake it, but I don't want to have to be doing that all the time.

Can the two of you then please confirm what Mouse you are using?
  • Wireless
  • PS/2
  • Touchpad

Also, can both of you confirm Device Manager is listing your mouse correctly:
  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager
  • Now expand the Mice and other pointing devices
So long as you are here anyway, if your mouse is correctly listed:
> Confirm its drivers were not modified along with that Windows update.
> Assuming the driver is fine, uninstall device, then restart computer to allow redetection

Yup, same problem here. Mouse works for everything, but I can't get out of screen saver... I will try the "alt tab" next time it screen saves.

so, "alt tab" works (slowly), but this will get tiresome after a while, so a solution would be good.
