When I start my Windows 10 Dell PC I see the sign in screen with a message
"The user name or password is incorrect. Try again"
I then click OK and enter my original password and the PC starts.
It seems an unnecessary step to go though.

I would actually prefer for the PC to start automatically without a password so that my autostart programs function when I am away from the PC.

Any ideas please?

That sounds a bit like you've previously configured netplwiz and the password that was used during its' configuration is not appropriate.
Maybe go back and reset it
Right click the start button and choose run and in the run dialog box type
netplwiz
hit enter or click OK
Check the box at the top that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
IF it is already check then uncheck it and check it again.
Click OK and restart your computer and see if you get the same message.
IF not then you should be able to go back and select your account and uncheck the box and click apply and enter your account password twice and reboot and you should be good to go.

Thank you Trouble. I did mess with netplwiz following some information I received on another forum. The check box was untucked so I ticked it and on a restart it showed my username and it didn't require a password. The next screen was my desktop and programs auto started as needed for my weather station (Erith Weather). Thanks again.

Much appreciated.
