Switching between task via taskbar does not work properly

When I have active tasks in my taskbar I want to switch f.i. from firefox to file explorer or Excel. When I click the icon often the screen is not changed to the clicked task. . Same when I use the TAskview button, When I click another task the clicked task is not shown on the screen. It needs some clicking from one to the other and suddenly the screen changes form task.

Whats happening?

[Trouble]

How busy is your computer.
Excessive disk activity can result in some latency, when switching between screens.
Is there a hard disk activity light?
Check resource monitor and see if the disk is indicating anything, likewise check CPU and Memory as well.
