Unable to send an e-mail

I was using Outlook 2007 on Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10. I was able to send and receive e-mails without difficulty. Since the upgrade I have been receiving e-mails but have been unable to send them. My husband has checked that all the settings are correct by setting up an e-mail account in my name on his machine using the settings from my laptop. Using this account he can both send and receive e-mails. He upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 at the same time as me. I want to be able to both send and receive e-mails on my machine. Please does anyone know what might be causing my problem and suggest a solution.
