Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE. Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have a website pinned to the task bar and open in Edge?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

Welcome to the forum Greyhoundrick, thanks for taking the time to join.
I can only confirm that your experience is exactly what I found, so......
No help from me. I suspect that it has something to do with Edge creating "Live Tiles" and as such are not taskbar pin-able, although I could not say for certain.
I know if you drag one from the start menu that you have pinned, onto the desktop it also changes into a generic shortcut to launch Edge and not the site

I don't use Edge.
If you click the 3-dots , you can select Pin to Start.
But not pin to taskbar.

Maybe some who uses Edge as default browser can show you a way to pin to taskbar.

I disabled IE11 which in turn uninstalled it.
What you should not of done was use Open with Internet Explorer.
That is why on task bar it opens with IE11.
If you had of left it as Edge it would of opened with that Browser

So now I have this site opened in Microsoft Edge browser.
Can you please explain to me step by step how......
1. I can pin a shortcut to this site onto my desktop
2. Pin a shortcut to this site to my taskbar
Using only the tools available in Microsoft Edge browser?
I truly want to learn how to do this.

The OP is asking how to Pin a website to the taskbar by using Edge.
What is your answer ?
2 people already said it cannot be done.
Do you have anything new to add ?

Thanks so much Trouble, David, hTconeM9user & Clifford for the information. Appreciate it. Ive looked around a little bit and it seems that while one article I read advises to select "Pin to Task Bar" after selecting the 3 dots while in Edge, the problem, as David shows, is that that particular option is not available (at least on my screen) in Edge.

After poking around a bit more Ive seen dialogue stating that you must open the website with IE before you pin it.

You can pin to start menu, put in favorites etc., but not to the task bar I guess if you want to use Edge. Kind of funny that you cant. Would seem like something that would be a feature of a new browser. Maybe it will be updated to include in the near future (?)

Thanks again everyone! :)

As you have recently experienced, not all advices can be trustworthy. It can be just plain rubbish.
There is a saying....... trust but verify.
I'll say....... don't trust until you can verify.

It is saved to say this thread is closed as you have found the answer yourself.
If it is agreeable to you, please mark this thread as Solved.

Thank you and happy computing.

Ok go to More Action
Click to open it
Make sure this forum is showing
Scroll down and click pin to start

Then go to start
Left click
Life at a glance will show
Scroll down to bottom
You will see the Browser Edge app hover your mouse over it and this forum link will show
Click on that and it will bring this forum up
I have moved mine to top of life at a glance and resized the tile to show small

I do not have it in taskbar or desktop
The reason being I have other things I use in taskbar and I like a tidy desktop
When I want to open this forum or any other site I am on
all I do is click start then click what site or forum you want and it will go straight to it
I have also added it to favourites bar so it show all the time Edge or webpage is up on your desktop
I have msn uk or you can have bing
I can then open this forum from there also
I do not have IE11 on my laptop having disabled it
Once disabled it will uninstall its self
Admin on other forum I am on has done a tutorial on it

The OP ask to have the website pin to TASKBAR.
So far you said NOTHING on how to pin to taskbar.

I had asked before and I am asking again......................
Show me the admin tutorial about uninstalling IE11.
I cam from Seven forums 4 years ago. I went from newbie to Guru status. I know all about Brink's tutorials. Don't BS me !

Thank you.
I already know how to pin to start using Microsoft Edge browser.
I do not have it in taskbar or desktop
Me either, because I can't do it.
AND I was sort of hoping that you had a solution, because I would really like to know how to do it and it was....
My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge
The actual focus of the question that the Original Poster asked.

Thank you all very much for the posts and input. Very much appreciated. I believe the conclusion for now is that you cant pin a website to the task bar in Edge at this time. You can pin it to start, place in in favorites, etc., but no task bar in Edge for now.

Since this is my first thread, please advise if ok to mark as Solved.

Found how to pin a website to the Edge Favorites Bar (what I call the Toolbar). With IE you could drag and drop. With Edge click on the star in the upper right, in the second choice option where it says "Save In" click on the down arrow and select "Favorites Bar"
