Windows 10 boots to black screen (no cursor), automatic repair won't load.

Out of the blue, my HP Elitebook wouldn't boot up (stuck on spinning circle). After leaving it for a long while, it eventually booted to a black screen. Others online have said that after a while a cursor appears but this doesn't happen for me.

If I try and restart the computer by turning it off manually it starts up and says 'preparing automatic repair'. However it never loads - I leave it for a couple of hours and it still says it's preparing automatic repair. I am unable to access the advanced startup options and I've tried installing windows 10 from my dvd but every time I do, for some reason it goes off the dvd and starts booting normally again, to that black screen.

Any ideas? Thanks :) I've not installed any updates/new software recently.

On my Elitebook, pressing "ESC", then "F9" when the HP logo shows up gives a boot menu screen. This might help with your reinstall problem.
