windows 10 hp laptop will not sleep with lid closed at certain times

This is stating to bug me. There are times when my laptop does go to sleep when i close the lid, and then there are times it does not so i wake up to a dead battery.

I have checked power settings, advanced power settings and any place i could think of to make sure "what to do when lid is closed" options were set to sleep.

I even uninstalled avast virus scanner because it was preventing me from saving bmp's from my own photo editing software.

I have no spyware on this machine after a scan and it still wont sleep 75% of the time when i close the lid

What else could be causing this?

any ideas why when i close the lid or go to windows menu>power>sleep, that it doesnt sleep? sometimes it does? but it seems like some random process or something is preventing it from sleeping
