windows start up diognostics selection from ESC button wont select

I am trying to do diagnostics check on my HP windows 10 from the safe reboot process, because i have windows update components problems, so i thought maybe a different way to find a solution, so i turn my computer off , then on, and while its rebooting i press the ESC button and it gives a number of options, one of them being a diagnostics run. The only problem is i cant make any selection no matter what i press, it tells me F2 but it dosent work, in fact none of it works, only the enter button to finish rebooting my computer works, can anyone help me with that please?

Recently ran into a similar problem while working on a very old HP Desktop running Windows XP.
I had to resort to using a ps2 wired keyboard. Fortunately I keep one in the closet along with a ps2 mouse for just such an occasion.
