I was thinking about the possible build update on Aug 2nd and trying to stay ahead of any problems. It seems some .iso download capabilities have been taken down. Perhaps this is temporary due to a new build being released or possibly since the free upgrade period is over, we are going back to only having access to paid downloads.

If it will be a new build tomorrow, maybe we need to get back to the practice of capturing the downloaded image if we want to be able to create install media for the new build? I will be trying to do so just in case, if I can remember how... ;)

Edit: I just downloaded the Windows.iso for the media creation tool site and it worked fine. It is the 10586 build, of course... I wonder if that will change if an upgrade happens tomorrow.

$windows.~BT hidden folder (after an upgrade) will generally contain the install.esd inside the "resources" folder.
I generally use a program call ESDtoISO to then use that esd file to create an ISO from which I can then generate installation media.
It's a very small command line driven program.
I usually keep a copy on my Gdrive, IF you need a link... let me know.

As an aside, on a bet to myself, I decided to clean install 14393 today as sort of a test, believing that it is, in fact, likely the actual "Anniversary Update" and will likely be what everyone gets come Tuesday and what everyone is currently waiting for.
Performed my usual DiskPart (clean) and installed.
My concern was that since it is "technically" an insider build that there might be some issues, especially with "updates"
I was happy to find that it installed and activated cleanly and promptly updated from 14393 to 14393.5 (latest cumulative update).

I'm going to leave it as is for now. My suspicion is that come Anniversary Update Tuesday (tomorrow) this computer will not get anything as it already has the OS installed.
Barring of course any last minute cumulative update, I think I'm good to go.

I suppose we will know tomorrow if they leave the ability to download the new .iso file. If they do it would be nice but I also notice the new build is supposed to have a way to clean install Win 10, so maybe a download won't be necessary.

Since you have the preview builds you may already be acquainted. I think someone said it was called Refresh... I was reading the posting describing all the updates and it looks like some will be appreciated but hard to tell if anything dramatic will be included.

I have, for a short while, been playing with LTSB. It is going to be interesting to see what transpires with that, when the update is launched.

I can see this update is causing a lot of sleepless nights and unwanted anxiety.
I'll bet that every one with the Win 10 upgrade, will all be like kids again tonight waiting for Santa Claus (Mr.ED Father Christmas) to arrive. LOL

I've left out clean system images and a manual restore for him. BTW, he won't find any cookies on my machine.

Not causing me any sleepless nights, that's for sure.
I think it is going to be the biggest non event in the computer world.

davehc I Agree! It's just like all the hype that surrounded Y2K, it came while we were sleeping, and when we awoke
to our surprise nothing happened. LOL However the preparation for nothing cost billions. I can still remember being called into work for the night shift with a small standby maintenance crew.

Not bothering me either except I wanted to be ready for it. Since I just saw an official announcement, maybe, it would be released tomorrow. I have set my multi-monitor system back to a single monitor.

All images and Recovery drives have been done. I assume it will be released tomorrow afternoon? But it seems, this will be an ongoing process every 6 months although it might not be this type of upgrade.

Saltgrass said "Not bothering me either except I wanted to be ready for it."
1. We don't know what it entails, could it be as big as the Windows 10 upgrade?
2.Should we be removing all of our external USB devices tonight? ;)

I would take it very seriously.
IF I were using any third party security software, I would uninstall it in advance.
AND
AS always and as I have already done (just finished) disk image of all my physical disks.
It'll look and feel like a new OS install and it's a pretty big deal, especially considering the relatively few front facing differences that the average everyday user will even notice.
The Start Menu is different and I like the change, was getting tired of clicking "All Apps", some subtle changes in the various applets contained in the "Settings" interface

I turned of all of the start apps and unpinned them when I upgraded, it's just unnecessary clutter to me. I customized it with all of my frequently used apps and PC maintenance tools.

Well, the update went fine on all three computers. Now I have to get about making System Images and Recovery Drives for the new installs...

I am starting to get used to the different look of the Start Screen. I have moved some things off the Desktop which cleans it up.
