I've just bought the XBox Live game pass and tried to install my first game within the XBox Live app. However, it won't let me choose an installation drive! It just says "unknown available" and the change button does nothing.

At the moment, I'm unable to install any games. Never had a problem like this before:

Anyone else have the XBox Live app and have this problem?

Nope, just the console here, for my grand daughter's FortNite obsession.
I'll assume that you've double checked the Store and any updates that might need attention from there, so....
My guess is that it's a temporary glitch in the matrix.
My limited experience with managing all things Xbox can be summed up with one word..... Frustrating.
From managing her account as part of the "Family", scheduling time she's allowed, adding money to her account, restricting purchase, etc.

They seem to work, until they don't and then magically work again.

Yep, you're right - tried again a bit later (after a couple of restarts) and it's working again!

hi all, here is the solution...

Open Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services

Remove the GamingServices and GamingServices.Net
Restart Computer
Go to your Windows Store -> 3-dot-menu -> Downloads and Updates -> Check updates

Gaming Services should install now without issue.
Removing Gaming Services in an Admin Powershell with:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

open xbox app and install the gaming service.

enjoy.

I'm having the same problem as you.

Since the last update of the Xbox software for Windows 10, I have been unable to add any new games.

I can launch certain games, but others require me to reinstall the gameservice, which I attempt but fail to do.

So I found the solution by deleting the gamingservices entry from the registry.
