Cannot access keyboard

At the start screen I am unable to use the keyboard and it doesn't see any external keyboards either. I log into the machine using the onscreen keyboard and I cannot use any buttons on the keyboard EXCEPT the F1-F12 buttons. How to enable the full keyboard again? This is dual boot, Windows 8.1 works fine still no issue with the keyboard. Any help is appreciated thanks!
