DVD player won't work

Hi all
I have a hp compaq elite 8300 I upgraded to win10 about a year ago everything was good until I decided to burn a dvd disc the pc says the DVD player is there but it won't take any disc I try to burn I have tried numerous things but still not working
Anyone any ideas

Is the player also a DVD writer? If yes have you closed the DVD after burning?
Do you have DVD playback software installed? Win 10 doesn’t playback DVDs natively.
