I jumped at the suggestion on another thread to delete wuauserv and now I want to resume auto updates. I need help in restoring the .dll file or whatever. I don't know where to find the file to download or even if that is the issue.

I am using Windows 10 Home and have version 1709 installed.

You might try running a System File Check to see if it will replace the service from a backup.

Open an administrative command prompt window and type SFC /scannow.

If that doesn't help or shows errors, try running the command below.

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Removing basic system files is not easy to do... for a reason.

Someone else may have a better answer for you.

I had already run the SFC but no help. I had forgotten about DISM. Ran that and it seems to have done the trick. Thanks.
