When my computer sleeps and I wake it up, I NO LONGER am asked for a password. I need this level of security.

I've changed the setting in power settings to require password, no joy.

EDIT:
If I put the computer into sleep, I get a password screen. If the computer goes into sleep after set time, no password required.

Is the computer going to sleep when you leave it, or could it be that the screensaver has been set to go "blank" after x minutes and it doesn't require a password when it springs back to life?

Can you you right-click the desktop then go to personalise > lock screen > screen saver settings

Here you should be able to select (none) as a screensaver and make sure that the "on resume, display log-on screen" is checked.
