Too many Pdf files opening up

When I click on a single Pdf file several keep opening up, I cannot find a way to stop them..
Any advice please?

Welcome to the Forum.

Some questions for you:

What are you opening PDF with? Acrobat Reader? Edge browser? Something else?
When you say 'several opening up', do you mean the same file opens multiple times, or that several different pdf files open at the same time?

Some PDF readers have an option to "remember" X number of previous sessions and will open all X in tabs.

There should be an option to disable same.
