Windows 10 Reset shows two versions of Windows 10

I then tell him to boot from install disk to try to repair and he gets this error message

I had him unplug all USB devices except mouse and printer and reinstall. Told him to run install disk for printer first then plug in when prompted. So far so good. Told him to run PC a day or two without the external HDD plugged and see what happens. Think from the error the drive or HDD caddy may be bad.
