This afternoon i swapped out the hdd on my gateway nv53 to a 120gb ssd and did a fresh windows 7 64 bit install from a usb. Everything went smooth, so afterwards i decided to update to windows 10 from the microsoft site. After the install it's been stuck on the "checking for updates" step for the past 2 hours. Is this expected?
How long is it supposed to take to check for updates?

If it is downloading the image to update it might take a while depending on your network speed.
Otherwise, the speed of your system could make a difference. You do need free space on the hard drive for the image and archive files so make sure you have sufficient space available.
