Hello and welcome to the forum.
Use Internet Explorer and Go here
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=atheros ar8171
Download and install the driver listed there.
The second one in the list and slightly larger file is for 64 bit. The top one is for 32 bit.

Hi, I'm new to this forum & not a techie. Please be gentle & explain as you would to a novice!
I'm trying to fix internet connection issues on our desktop Windows 10 computer. I'm getting error message 651 when using a new modem, a Netgear N600 Model: DGND3700. The computer is connected via ethernet cable. The computer connects fine on our old, slow Huawei modem, but gives the 651 error message whenever I try to connect using the new Netgear modem.

I've done all of the things suggested on another post - https://www.windows10forums.com/threads/error-651.1160/ using: http://www.geeksgyaan.com/2015/04/fix-error-651.html
However, none of those fixes have worked.

Our Windows 10 laptop connected using the ethernet without problem. I'm now wondering if I should try to connect the desktop using the grey ethernet connection port on the modem, instead of a yellow one, as I did for the laptop. I don't know what the difference is, but that worked for the laptop. I'll have to wait until our household is awake to try this.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers Jem

I moved your three posts into your own thread as your problem is probably unique and not applicable to the thread that you had joined.
For instance the driver you reference above was specific for a particular network adapter and has nothing to do with the issue you are experiencing.

Have you contacted your Internet Service Provider and informed them that you have switched devices so that they can provision for the new device so it's able to connect to their network.
I assume that since it is a DSL device, they will have to make some adjustments on their end to the PVC to allow connectivity.
IN the case of PPPoE you may have to also provide the proper username and password on the WAN port configuration page of the device. They should be able to help you with that as well.
