I upgraded to windows 10 last weekend. I had some issues with not being able to copy files between two PC's in my network unless i rebooted the PC with the latest Windows install. I ran the trouble shooter but the issue just got worse.

I currently have no internet (no help therefor) when i ran the network diagnostic it states "Wifi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Iv'e run
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
and netsh winsock reset

All seem to run ok but NO log file was created and problem remains.

I also ran something called fixwin10. It doesn't appear to work or do anything.

I think my winsocket instillation maybe corrupt but haven't found anything on how to reinstall it.
I also removed my wifi adapter from the Device manager list and had it recreate it.

But the error persists. I also don't seem to have restore point since the upgrade it's been removed so i can't roll back

Basic, but, just in case!
Have you tried clicking the Wireless icon in the notification area and then clicking the available wireless connection - if there is one. It will offer the option to connect automatically.

You could also check in the settings, to see if any better wireless drivers were downloaded before you lost your connection. They may still need installing.

after uninstalling the adapter from the device manager i had to resellect the connection and type in my router password from scratch. So yes i did do that.

What settings are you referring to ?

That is a first. I have no idea how windows 10 could disable your router password. But, you now have a connection?

Start menu - settings -Update and Security.

A semi-reliable way to determine if there is a local issue with windows networking sub-systems is to use the command prompt ping command to......
ping yourself
open a command prompt and type
ping localhost
hit enter
if no error then.....
now type
ipconfig
hit enter
note the numbers to the right of the IPv4 Address line and ping those
type
ping 192.168.1.222 (whatever your actual numbers are)
hit enter
if no error, then chances are your OK
now time
ipconfig /all
hit enter
copy and paste the results into your next post.

right click the start button and choose run and in the run dialog box type
ncpa.cpl
hit enter
right click the adapter you are using and choose properties
In the area labeled this connection uses the following items:
what do you have checked
OR
maybe more importantly unchecked

Ok. I couldn't do a restore so i did a revert back to previous o/s
back in Win8.1 all network connections are working fine.
So I downloaded and installed win10 again and network is still working.
I've also enabled the restore point option this time.
thanks for the help. I was lucky i could revert to previous o/s.

Glad it worked out alright and thanks for keeping us updated on your progress.
Now hopefully it'll survive any coming updates.
