Start button & search box not working, file explorer crashing.

Hi all,

So i've had this issue since Sunday now and it's starting to affect my studies. Basically, hitting Start, using the windows key or clicking the Win 10 search bar does nothing.

My file explorer will also crash if I click on a media file such as an image or movie. It has been exactly this way since Sunday and when I've had spare time, I have been trying every method to fix it (Safe mode, restart, driver updates, sfc /scannow) but nothing has ever worked.

It's a strange issue though since it only affects my desktop when i'm signed in to my windows account. These functions work as normal on a guest account.

Another problem is that the same issue is now affecting my laptop as well.

Do a system restore to a point in time prior to "Sunday"
See if that provides any relief from the problem.

Is there perhaps a new update for Windows 10? Just to restart the hole system helped several times. If this does not solute the problem, here is an article with some solutions: Windows Search problems.
