Stuck on Welcome Screen

Starting today, when I turn my computer on, I get to the initial startup screen with a tree and flowers, but when I press a key to bring up the log in screen, the time goes up to the top of the screen, as it normally would, then it pauses, the screen turns black, and it takes me back to the image. No matter how many times I try hitting a key or resetting I can not get past this screen.
