SOLVED Two things...

Firstly can anyone recommend a free safe video convertor to convert mpeg4 to mpeg2 that windows defender will accept.
Secondly, windows says update ready and need restart, then it starts and then say's cannot finish update and needs to undo updates?.

Now it's started to happen on my desktop with trying install windows updates..just says failed each time?

Which update? Most of my RTM machines are up to date at Windows 10 Version 2009/20H2 Build 19042.985 and not seeing any problems, probably get the last 2 done today.

Desktop has righted it's self after three attemps..but the laptop is a right mess...it was fine untill the windows update came on the scene, then all hell broke loose. At the moment I'm trying to restore it, but that's giving me problems..it's been going on for ages and when it eventually finishes, it says it can't be done.

Tried everything..downloaded creation tool on usb, but it just goes into reparing and diagnosing.

Download the Media Creation tool to the computer you are using now, find it in File Explorer, double-click it and it will walk you through the process of making a bootable USB stick. Be advised that everything on the stick will be erased. Also, if you have never booted from a USB stick, you insert the stick, start the computer, quickly press the correct function key to bring up the boot menu and select "USB".

It won't boot from the usb..it just goes into repair/diagnosis every time

If you are just copying the Media Creation tool to the USB stick, it won't work that way. Download the tool to to the computer you are using now, find it in File Explorer and double-click it. Also, when booting from a USB stick, you must insert the stick and press the correct function key during startup to bring up the boot menu.
