Hey,

I've been running of a USB wifi dongle since upgrading to Windows 10, but it's old and ridicolously slow so I'd like to move back to cable again.

Since the installation of Windows 10, cable has not been working.
In device manager, it shows Code 28 at my Ethernet Controller.

I can't seem to find any drivers and I've been looking all over the internet :(
Computer is self-built. Running the motherboard's driver CD doesn't help.

Thanks in advance!
Chris

We'll need to have some specifics on the device you're talking about.
Open device manager, find the problem adapter, right click it and choose properties.
Select the details tab change the Device description drop down to Hardware Ids
Right click a line in the "Value" box and choose select all
Right click again and choose copy
Paste that information into your next post
Should look something like this
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_03
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_0200
Perhaps consider looking around for a reasonably priced add in card (PCI) as an alternative. I can only imagine that if Windows 10 doesn't have native drivers for it, then it is likely very old or perhaps somehow faulty or failed.

Hey man!

Here's the Hardware ID's:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&SUBSYS_85C41043&REV_00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&SUBSYS_85C41043
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&CC_0200

Well yea, I could buy a PCI card, but I hope it doesn't come down to that. My beauty has some fine specifications already!

Oh. Seems like the problem is solved! Googling the first hardware ID came to this conclusion:

For anyone else who might have the same problem (running ASUS Gryphon z87 mobo and 64 bit), download this zip file and extract it in a folder on your desktop. Go to drivers > Win81x64 > Run SetupBD.exe. Let it install the driver.

Thanks to @Trouble for suggesting to search for the Hardware ID's.
